Kathryn Mann’s abstract

Given a transformaton, or a system of transformatons obeying certain laws (a group), dynamicists look for invariants that capture the long-term, global behavior of the system. This course will introduce fundamental dynamical invariants for groups actng on the circle, startng with the rotaton number of ooincar and examples of Denjoy. By the end, we will discuss some more modern techniques and questons, including those involving ordering groups.
